Industrial automation can be a very valuable resource not only to increase the competitiveness of companies in complex markets, but also to achieve new goals in terms of sustainability by making production cycles less impactful. In fact, automated control systems make it possible to monitor and manage the entire production process in a timely manner, minimizing waste and excessive use of energy and raw materials, as well as enabling the collection of real-time data on resource use and environmental impact, which are essential for identifying areas for improvement and implementing optimization strategies.
The conference, co-hosted by ANIE Automazione's HMI-IPC-SCADA and PLC-I/O Groups, aims to highlight the achievement of sustainability goals resulting from the implementation of automation and control solutions in industrial processes, through the presentation of application cases in a variety of contexts.
During the event, Francesco Capponcelli - Team Leader Operations Solutions BU Applied Industrial Innovation - presented Buddy, a digital solution from Applied developed in collaboration with Intercomp, which operates in the IT hardware sector. Buddy was introduced in the IMA Group's production facilities, demonstrating its effectiveness in providing operators directly inside the production lines with all the digital material needed to increase production performance, in constant connection with the various technical departments.
In particular, he focused on the significant impact that Buddy has in terms of sustainability, as with its digital features, it represents an innovative tool that makes it possible to make company production cycles less impactful, optimizing production times, minimizing waste of resources and materials, and reducing not only waste but also costs.
Among the key points we highlighted are:
- 20% reduction on paper use and 15% reduction on printer ink
- reduced timelines by 60%
- cost savings of 50%
- improved personal ergonomics of operators through the adoption of more correct posture at different consultation stages
- increased work performance
Buddy is the Digital Assistant that enables companies to share information and technical documentation in real time and is designed to work alongside assembly and assembly operators, facilitating collaboration and hybrid teamwork. Designed to support assembly and assembly operators in real-time retrieval of digital technical documentation, Buddy is a mobile and integrated application, complete with hardware and software, designed to provide assistance in manufacturing environments to increase process efficiency and final product quality.
